Priory School Lewes won the inaugural Force Basketball Schools Championship U14 title with a nail-biting one point victory over Peacehaven Community School (PCS) in the final.
Spread over two days, the tournament saw PCS head the standings at the end of the league play, with a 100% record. Priory were in second place, followed by Seahaven Academy and Seaford Head School.
The first semi-final pitched PCS against Seaford, and despite an encouraging start from Seaford, PCS secured their place in the final with a 20-9 victory.
The second semi-final was a match-up between Priory and Seahaven, who had fought a close 12-8 game in league play. The semi-final, proved to be anything but close and some excellent long-range shooting from Priory led them to an impressive 21-0 victory.
PCS had beaten Priory 12-6 in league play, so were confident that they would achieve their fourth victory in a row to clinch the title. However, the final proved to be an incredibly tight game with both teams playing intense defence. A last gasp three-pointer gave Priory a slim 3-2 advantage at half-time, and the second half proved to be just as hard fought, with PCS missing the final shot as Priory ran out 5-4 victors, to be crowned worthy champions!
Thanks to all the teachers for bringing their teams, and to the players who were all fantastic ambassadors for their schools. Extra special thanks to Seaford and PCS who both hosted a day of the tournament.
The U16 Championship takes place on Monday 14th (Lewes) and Monday 21st January (PCS).
